The 6th Annual Student Film Festival is this Wednesday, November 30 at 7:00pm in Septima Clark Auditorium (ECTR 118)
The 6th Annual Student Film Festival will actually be a retrospective of the first five years of student filmmaking here at the College of Charleston. Screened will be winners from previous festivals, as well as a few extra favorites. This should get everyone excited about next year's festival, which will be in its seventh year! Congratulations to all the students from all the past festivals who have made these events possible. Come celebrate with us tomorrow at 7:00pm in ECTR 118.

The Student Film Club meets Wednesday, November 16 at 7:00pm in Septima Clark Auditorium (ECTR 118)
The Student will meet this week and screen L.A. Confidential, as part of its Great Films/Great Cities series. Starring Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, Kim Bassinger, and of course the city of Los Angeles, circa
1953. Join us at 7:00pm in ECTR 118.

Filmmakers and star of Darius Goes West to host screening and Q&A, Thursday, November 17
The star and the filmmakers of Darius Goes West will screen their film at 7:00pm at Sottile Theatre and then lead a Q&A afterward. The documentary follows Darius Weems, born with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). At age 19, after losing a brother to the same disease, Darius became wheelchair bound. So his friends decide to take him on the road trip of his life. Come join us for this inspiring film and meet Darius himself, Thursday, November 17.

The Student Film Club meets Wednesday, November 9 at 7:00pm in Septima Clark Auditorium (ECTR 118)
The Student will meet this week and screen, as part of its Great Films/Great Cities series, Ren
é Clair's Under the Roofs of Paris (Sous les toits de Paris, 1930). From the Criterion Collection website: "This witty exploration of love and human foibles, told primarily through song, captures the flamboyant atmosphere of [Paris] with sophisticated visuals and groundbreaking use of the new technology of movie sound. An international sensation upon its release, Under the Roofs of Paris is an exhilirating celebration of filmmaking and one of France's most beloved cinematic exports." Filmmakers of Frankie Go Boom to host screening and Q&A, Friday, November 4
The filmmakers of Frankie Go Boom, Elliot Lewitt (producer), Julie Kirkham (Producer) and Jordan Roberts (writer/director) will host a special Q&A session for students only this Friday at 2:00pm in Simons Center, room 309. Then, at 7:00pm, there will be a free screening of the film at Sottile Theatre, with another infromal Q&A, open to audience members, to follow. Frankie Go Boom, which will be shown at the Sundance film festival in February 2012, is a story about Frankie who, as IMDB describes it, "has been tortured, embarrassed, and humiliated by his brother Bruce--usually on film--his entire life. Now that Bruce is finally off drugs and has turned his life around, things should be different. They are not."

The Student Film Club meets Wednesday, October 26 at 7:00pm in Septima Clark Auditorium (ECTR 118)
The Student Film Club will meet tonight to screen Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow (1999). Starring Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci. Burton's dark and lavish retelling of the well-known Washington Irving short story is a timely entry for this semester's Film Series, "Great Films About Great Cities." Join us as we ride through the spooky woods of that famous glen, Sleep Hollow.

The College of Charleston's Italian Film Festival begins tomorrow, October 20.
The festival is begins this Thursday, October 20 and will run through Saturday, October 22. All screenings are in Sottile Theatre. You can visit the festival blog here for more information. The Student Film Club meets Wednesday, October 19 at 7:00pm in Septima Clark Auditorium (ECTR 118)
The Student Film Club will meet tonight and screen the latest film in their Fall Film Series, the animated classic Fantastic Planet (dir. René Laloux, 1973). Of course, this film is about a fictional place. But the Film Club thought it would a terrific idea to broaden the scope of their "Great Films about the World's Great Cities" series. Join us at 7:00pm in ECTR 118.

The Student Film Club meets Wednesday,  October 12 at 7:00pm in Septima Clark Auditorium (ECTR 118)
The Student Film Club will hold its next meeting this Wednesday. And as part of the Film Club's Fall film series, devoted to great films about the world's greatest cities, the club will screen Wings of Desire (1987), Wim Wenders gorgeous portrayal of Berlin. An angel named Damiel (Bruno Ganz) watches the everyday lives of several Berliners and falls in love with a young acrobat named Marion. Also stars the late, great Peter Falk. Join us 7:00pm.

The Student Film Club meets Wednesday,  October 5 at 7:00pm in Septima Clark Auditorium (ECTR 118)
The Student Film Club will hold its next meeting this Wednesday. And as part of the Film Club's Fall film series, devoted to great films about the world's greatest cities, the Student Film Club will screen Terry Gilliam's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998). Starring Johnny Depp as gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson. A stunningly visual film that goes straight into heart of America's glitziest, gaudiest cities (as seen through the twisted head of Thompson). Join us at 7:00pm.

The Student Film Club meets tonight,  September 28 at 7:00pm in the Communications Museum
The next Student Film Club meeting is this Wednesday, and the meeting will include a screening of Woody Allen's Manhattan (1979). The screening is part of the Student Film Club's Fall film series devoted to great films about great cities. Allen's 1979 film stars Diane Keaton, Meryl Streep, Mariel Hemmingway, and of course the most famous city in the world, New York. In glorious black and white.

Pearl Jam documentary, PJ20, to premiere at Cinebarre on Wednesday, September 28 at 8:00pm
Cameron Crowe's documentary, Pearl Jam Twenty, which chonicles the band's history, will be screened at Cinebarre in Mt. Pleasant tonight at 8:00pm. For a link to a story, with all relevant info, from the Charleston City Paper, click here.

The Student Film Club meets Wednesday,  September 21 at 7:00pm in the Communications Museum
The next Student Film Club meeting is this Wednesday, and the meeting will include a screening of Robert Altman's Nashville (1975). The screening is part of the Student Film Club's Fall film series which is devoted to films about great cities of the world. Altman's film takes us to the heart of America, or a certain view of it, through the lenses of Nashville music. The film, with its ensemble cast (Keith Carradine, Geraldine Chaplin, Karen Black, Ned Beatty, Jeff Goldblum, and dozens of others) and mix of music, politics, and local culture, is a most unusual tapestry. Join us at 7pm in the John Rivers Communications Museum screening room (subsequent Film Club meetings will be held in ECTR 118). The Communication Museum is located at 58 George St., on the corner of St. Philip and George St. (across from the CVS).

"We Carry These Memories Inside of We" - a 20th Anniversary celebtration of Julie Dash's Daughters of the Dust
The Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture is hosting a two-day symposium on the Black Art Aesthetic of filmmaker Julie Dash. The symposium begins the morning of Friday, September 16 and continues through Saturday, September 17. Click here for more information.

The Greater Park Circle Film Society will host a screening of Pray the Devil Back to Hell, Sunday, Septmeber 25
The screening of this award winning film by Gini Reticker will be help Sunday, September 25 at 4:00pm at the Olde North Charleston Picture House, whic is located at 4820 Jenkins Ave. in North Charleston. The South Carolina Film Commission presents a night of short films by South Carolina filmmakers
The SC Film Commission, in partnership with the Charleston International Film Festival, will host an evening of short films by local filmmakers this Thursday at 7:00pm at Cinebarre. The films presented are by filmmakers Erik Adolphonson (Civil), Maria White (The Debutante Hunters), Lee Waldrep (TOOGOODOO), Steve Daniels (Dirty Silverware), and Rebecca Pryce (Liberating Jessie). The Student Film Club meets Wednesday,  September 14 at 7:00pm in Septima Clark Auditorium (ECTR 118)
The Student Film Club will hold its next meeting this Wednesday and as part of the Film Club's Fall film series, will screen Black Orpheus (dir. Marcel Camus, 1959). This wonderful, award-winning film takes place in colorful Rio de Janeiro during its famous Carnival. Not only a lovely portrait of this fabulous city, Camus's film is a beautiful retelling of the Orpheus myth. Join us at 7:00pm in ECTR 118.

The Second Monday Environmental Documentary Series will screen Tap Out tonight in RSS 235 at 6:00pm
The Second Monday series is devoted to pertitnent and acclaimed documentaries about our environment. Tonight's film, Tap Out: The Documentary, was produced by College of Charleston's own Timothy Callahan, and CofC graduate student Nick Wallover. The film takes a serious look at the water quality issues of the Carolinas. For more information, you can download the program flier here. The screening will be held in the Robert Scott Small building (the old library) in room 235. The screening will begin at 6:00pm.

The Student Film Club meets Wednesday,  September 7 at 7:00pm in Septima Clark Auditorium (ECTR 118)
The Student Film Club will hold its first meeting of the semester and launch its new Semester Film Series, devoted to films about great cities, by screening Sophia Coppola's vibrant portrayal of Tokyo, especially the Shinjuku and Shibuya distrcits, Lost in Translation (2003). Come and meet the Film Club officers and its newest members and join the club! The meeting will begin at 7:00pm in ECTR 118.
